Every year in October since 1989, local philanthropist Jon M. Huntsman has sponsored the World Senior Games. Billed as "the premiere sporting event for seniors," contestants must be 50 years of age or older.
Warning: unless you want a right hook to the kisser, don't call a 50-year old man or woman a senior anywhere else but in St. George. Upwards of 5,000 gray-bound athletes show up every year to compete in sports such as basketball, tennis, cycling, golf, horseshoes, racquetball, softball and volleyball. There are a total of nineteen sporting events to compete in, plus health screenings for men and women, which include free PSA testing, mammograms and cholesterol and glaucoma readings. Registration for this week-long event is just $59.
