Festival State: New York Festivals

Festival Type(s): Bizarre Festivals, Gay and Lesbian Festivals

For another group of puppies who really know how to pounce, come to New York in September for America's wildest transexual-Transylvanian festival extroidinaire - Wigstock. At last year's event some 10,000 perky wig-wearers showed up to strut their stuff in the streets of the city. Every year promises live entertainment from the celebrity drag and porn worlds such as Lady Chablis from Jon Berendt's book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and the super raunchy sister Chi Chi LaRue.

While the admission price is pretty steep, the people-watching alone at this day-long gaud-awful affair is worth every penny. Want to test drive the event first? Go to your local video store and see if they Wigstock: The Movie, a documentary made in 1995.
