Lao Elephant Festival Video
Join the pachyderm-loving peeps from picturesque Paklay in Laos come February for the annual Lao Elephant Festival.
Fifty or more of these gracious giants - with mahouts in tow - gather in a wonderful celebration that lasts for three days.
Except an abundance of local food, traditional music and dance along with any number of elephant-based events and activities including elephant logging demonstrations, monk blessings, elephant baths and elephant rides for the whole family (what other animal can offer that).
With only 1,200 of these majestic beasts remaining in Laos, the event is used to raise awareness of the Elephant's plight in the region as well as providing a healthy cash injection into the local economy.
For more information check out the Lao Elephant Festival website or ElefantAsia whose mission is to protect the Asian Elephant.
