It's been tagged the last great race on earth, it covers a course of some 1,100 miles over some of the most pristine and inhospitable terrain in the world - from snow-swept tundras to saw-toothed mountain ranges. It's Alaska's famed and feared Iditarod and it's held every March from Anchorage, in south central Alaska, to Nome on the western Bering Sea coast.
