You have to hand it to our Japanese friends, they've got a calendar crammed with a fairly full quota of freakish fests.

During Baby-cry Sumo - or Konaki Sumo in the local tongue - sumo wrestlers face off armed with cutely-dressed infants in a contest to see which baby cries first. Shaken ever so slightly by their sumo captives and teased by priests, it's little wonder the contest ends in tears.

Why you ask? A Japanese proverb has it that babies that cry grow faster. And the louder babies howl, the more blessed they are.
