Festival Location: Breckenridge, CO, USA

Festival State: Colorado Festivals

Festival Type(s): Winter Sports Events, Winter Festivals, Bizarre Sports Events

While this celebration of Ullr, the God of snow (or the "Phat Man of Winter" as he's locally referred) is predominantly a locals-only event, there's nothing keeping other ice heads from joining these free wacky reindeer games. You're more than welcome to join the Ullympics, six days of sporting madness held every January.

Each year about fifteen teams of four gather to compete in such events as the Four-Main Ski Race, where each team navigates an intricate path on skis constructed out of two-by-six pieces of wood. Or what about the Turkey Toss, where team members use a frozen turkey in a bowling event made for the birds. While the Ullympics is just for fun, participants in the Ullr Parade have a chance at winning four free airline tickets anywhere Vanguard flies. This is an anything-goes event, where the freakiest floats and the craziest costumes always catch the judges' eyes.
