After passing up an opportunity to take a gap year between school and university Helen Lang decided to fulfil this ambition by taking a few months to backpack in South America after her degree. Although returning to university to take a masters in Archaeology, she was hooked by the travel bug and has been intermittently travelling ever since, and currently lives in Barcelona, working as an English teacher.
To try and find out more about countries she visited she decided, rather than just travelling, that she wanted to volunteer, and she worked in Mongolia for a non-governmental organisation for a couple of months, and has subsequently published a couple of articles about her experiences.
