Matthew Treadwell

Matthew Treadwell is a freelance writer and photographer based in Budapest, Hungary. After teaching English literature for a number of years - most recently at a private British school - he begun writing full time. His teaching has taken him to Italy, Korea, Mexico, Japan, England and now, of course, Hungary. For Matthew, one of the wonders of being in a foreign country is the opportunity to witness, and participate in, local festivals and celebrations. From dancing drunkenly around a bonfire at a Hungarian harvest festival to driving demons away with a monstrous bell at a Japanese shrine to bring in the new year, it has been marvelous to feel, it only fleetingly, a part of the local community and culture.

In addition to writing travel pieces, Matthew is currently working on his first novel. He is also having a children's book illustrated and hopse to have it published sometime this year. He lives his wife and three year-old son, and is expecting a new baby in February.
