Shrewsbury Flower Show
Shrewsbury Flower Show
The Shrewsbury Flower Show has been described as the finest provincial horticultural event in the country.
And independent judges have underlined the consistently high standard of the exhibits of flowers, fruit and vegetables - from the country's top nurserymen and cottage gardeners housed under acres of canvas. A recent introduction of an outdoor garden competition has also been widely acclaimed, along with the heavily supported national floral art classes. There is also a dedicated bees, honey and wine section.
But The Shrewsbury Flower Show offers the visitor much more than its horticultural splendour. From its inception in 1875 the show has always provided a strong musical programme involving three military bands performing in the Victorian bandstand in the centre of The Quarry showground - as well as the arena.
Ten hours of continuous entertainment in the arena also includes top grade show jumping and speciality acts. The climax to each day is a spectacular fireworks display, regarded as one of the best to be seen anywhere in the UK.
There is also a special area set aside for the children - with continuous live entertainment and fairground-style rides - and the large trade stand area is an attraction in itself.
