Festival Snippet

Roadkill Cookoff

by © Jan Friedman 2009

Festival Location: Marlington, WV, USA

Festival State: West Virginian Festivals

Festival Type(s): Bizarre Festivals, Food Festivals

Several years ago, when the state of West Virginia made it legal to take home - and use - animals killed by cars, the Roadkill Cookoff in Marlinton was born. Dishes with names like Thumper Meets Bumper, Asleep at the Wheel Squeal, One Ton Wonton, Rigormortis Bear Stew, Tire Tread Tortillas and Deer on a Stick are judged for their taste - or lack of it. Citizens of the state have been picking up, and cooking, roadkill long before they named a festival in honor of the practice.
