Potomac River Sacred Harp Singing Convention
Potomac River Sacred Harp Singing Convention

Every April a handful of God-fearing folks descend upon DC to churn out some church hymns. But these aren't any church hymns, these are the hymns from the Sacred Harp (1844), the most enduring of the shape-note tunebooks popular in 19th-century rural America.
If fuging tunes and anthems in unaccompanied four-part harmony in historic churches sounds like your idea of a horns-up rocking good time, then this is the place for you (read: you need to get out more). Although the convention is dubbed free, "free-will offerings" are expected.
