A luxury hotel in New York may be a lot cheaper than you think...
There are cities that look back and cities that gaze long but chief among the cities for looking up is that horn-honky, glass-gleamy, culture-cool megalopolis, New York City. "Look up," people advise, at the Chrysler Building and the Statue of Liberty. "Look up," people recommend, when you've just arrived at Penn Station or JFK and you want to jumpstart your career in theater, finance, literature, anything.
Perhaps, more than any other two words, those are the duo that should be printed on the back of ever "I ♥ NY" t-shirt. Look up, both at the towering skyline and at your possibilities. Look. Up.
But we're also a proponent for looking down in the city that never sleeps (props, Frank Sinatra, Liza Minnelli, and all other crooners who have "New York, New York"-ed over the ages).
We're looking down at the folded slice of oil-slicked pizza in our hand as we walk, Tony-Manero-in-"Saturday-Night-Fever"-style, through the always busy streets. We're looking down at the tickets in our hand, two passes to the big Broadway show. We're looking down as we search for the perfect patch of Central Park grass, where we plan to laze away a Sunday while we watch New Yorkers jog and toss a baseball and work out all the things they need to work out in order to participate in one of the go-go-go-iest places on the planet. We're looking down at the old paths walked by Lenape Indians and Dutch fur traders and the thousands of immigrants who arrived at Ellis Island at the turn of the 20th century, determined to forge ahead to a brighter day.
