Combine Demolition Derby - Lind

by © Jan Friedman 2008

Festival Location: Lind, WA, USA

Festival State: Washington Festivals

Festival Type(s): Bizarre Festivals , Bizarre Sports Events, Car Shows

Before being consigned to the scrap heap, aging farm combines belching their last are brought to the Combine Demolition Derby in the small farming community of Lind. Wheat threshers that are all threshed-out get patched together with baling wire and duct tape, then decorated for the beauty pageant that kicks off the event. The machines, which must be at least 25 years old and certified inoperable for harvest, are then paraded before the crowd with the owner of the 'most beautiful' combine getting a cash prize. Combat takes place in a dirt arena, the lumbering machines bashing feebly at one another until all but one are disabled and towed off the field in disgrace.
