Vietnam's path to becoming the prosperous emerging nation we know it as today has been a long an arduos one. Centuries before the Vietnam War, Le Van Duyet - a Vietnamese General - helped Nguyen Anh - the future Emperor of Gia Long - quash the Tay Son Rebellion and in the process unify Vietnam and establish the Nguyen Dynasty.
The people of Ho Chi Minh mark the life and achievments of Le Van Duyet at the Le Van Duyet Tomb Festival each year beginning on the 30th day of the seventh lunar month and continuing through to the first day of the eighth lunar month.
Over the two days of the festival, attendees pray for the continued peace and prosperity of Vietnam, for good weather, a succesful harvest and happiness in general.
