Just across Mosquito Pass from Fairplay is Leadville. The two towns used to jointly run the race, agreeing to have the race finish in each town on alternate years. But like the Hatfields and McCoys, the two towns just couldn't get along. So they decided to host separate races. Leadville's annual race, a part of their Boom Days celebration, occurs every first full weekend in August. For more info call 719/486-3900.
