Bodelwyddan Medieval Festival
Bodelwyddan Medieval Festival
It's the largest medieval festival in Wales, set at the lovely Bodelwyddan Castle Park - 260 acres of parkland overlooking Rhuddlan Castle and St. Asaph Cathedral with views to the Clywd Mountains and the sea.
A packed programme of displays and demonstrations includes story telling, dance, juggling, falconry, archery, sword fighting, medieval artillery, mounted hunting skills and a daily battle.
A medieval market provides retail therapy, along with side shows, caterers, and the infamous Trollsbottom Bar with real ales, ciders, lager and mead. You can also explore the living history encampments and see how families had to manage on military campaigns in the turbulent times of the year when the border between England and Wales was in dispute and then when powerful rival factions fought for control of the throne of England in the bloody and treacherous War of the Roses.
All in all, a wonderful family day out with the chance of adding some education to the entertainment and sparking an interest into our eventful and colourful history.
